HOW THE PEGASI LOST THEIR WINGS

Long, long ago, during the time of princes and princesses, ogres and giants, gnomes and dwarves, there was a flock of Pegasi. Every day, the flock flew around the many kingdoms searching for a meadow to graze in. One day, one of the Pegasi named Penney was exploring around the area of their new grazing grounds and got lost.

THE FROG

Back when dinosaurs were still alive, there was a creature. It was huge and lived in the sea. It loved to put its huge feet on the ocean floor and have its head above the sea. But one day, a big crocodile like dinosaur came at night when the creature could not see.

Unfortunately, the crocodile bit all four legs off the creature. To the creatures surprise, it saw its legs one hundredth the size. Then, the creature could not see above the sea with its feet on the floor. One million years later, it began to shrink. Sadly, it shrank and shrank until it was the size of a frog. In fact, it was a frog!

Now, the 1st creature that was turned into a frog is hiding under a lily pad hoping not to get caught.

GHOTO

We needed to stop at a hotel on our way to take pictures in Florida. So on our way from California to Florida we stopped in a five star Hotel. However on their web page, they said no people work there. That's weird, I thought. Don't Hotels need to be cleaned? But like always, my parents wouldn't listen. So, I'm forced to go in a hotel in the middle of a desert that nobody works in.

I jolted awake hearing a scream from the floor above us. I tried to fall back asleep, but I felt like that won't happen. Unfortunately, I woke up for a second time feeling cold fingers on my neck and there is a creaking sound that makes it feel like the hotel is alive. I jump out of bed afraid to look behind me. I shiver thinking about what could be in our hotel room. A ghost? A goblin? An assassin?

I ran over to my parents camera, grabbed it, and spun around to face whatever was behind me and took photos. I might have taken 1, 10 or 1,000. I didn't care because I needed proof that this hotel is haunted. I stare in shock because now I know there is a ghost staring at me through unblinking eyes. He says "I am Gloto," as he pulls out a knife. I am too stunned to scream. "I was murdered by something in this room...It was this." He reaches out and snatched the camera I was holding. He suddenly reached into the camera and pulled out a gun. Then, I screamed. My parents woke up and found that I was being threatened with a gun. They grabbed my collar and yanked me out of the window. My parents and I didn't care how far we were dropping, but they did care that we were getting away. Gloto screamed, "Nooooooooooo" in rage. He lost his prey again.

HOW THE ROSE BECAME

One day Aphrodite the Goddess of Love was sad.
Although she had accomplished many things she had always
wished there was a flower for love. So she started crafting,
as the only thing she loved as much as love was crafting.

So she started making hearts out of the world’s
finest fabrics (pink, red, yellow) until she swirled them all
together and put a green stem at the end.
To make sure no one touched it, she put spikes on the stem.

Then she took a look from far away, she was relieved.
 It looked amazing.

“Now what should I name this Beauty?” she asked herself.

After days of thinking she finally decided on the most beautiful name: Rose.

THE SHORT GHOST STORY

I’ve had the same weird dreams before but this one takes the cake. In it, someone’s tried to kill me, for no reason at all! How rude! When I abruptly awoke, I felt something was wrong. I got up and walled around my room. Everything was gone! Not a trophy, or a souvenir or anything on my desk! I want into the hallway and called for my parents, but no one answered. I dashed back to my room to get my phone, when I saw something that shocked me so badly I almost screamed.

There was nothing there. Not just trinkets, but my dresser, mirror, light and my bunk beds. And here I thought I was an ordinary 11 year old. My first thought was we were moving. I dashed out to the front yard but stopped and started thinking my dream. How I woke up and got off my imaginary bed. I assumed the worst; I grabbed my shoes and ran out the door. I kept running across the street after street, yet I wasn’t tired.

But, then, I finally arrived at my destination, the town graveyard. I strolled through the alphabetized rows searching. When I got to the “R” row I stopped. I looked across the row. There were lots of them. I ran to the end where people were buried recently, when I saw it.

“Will Riley 2008-2019” on a gravestone.

I was dead. My dream wasn’t a dream, it was real. I thought back to running here but not getting tired. It all made sense. I was a ghost. When I realized this, I felt free. I started walking in a random direction and didn’t turn back. I just wanted to relax, and so I did.

HOW TREES GOT THEIR LEAVES

Once a long time ago all of the trees had no leaves and they could talk!

One day the smallest tree said: "Why can't we have things on our branches?" Her name was Leaves. "What do you mean?" said  Leaves' mom Ella.

"I want to have something on my branches." said Leaves.  "I think you could make something for our branches" said Ella.

So Leaves walked around the forest and went to her dad, Bob.  Leaves asked for some fabric and needles. Bob gave them to Leaves." Thanks, " said Leaves. "Anytime," said Bob.

Leaves went to tree park where trees walked, talked and sat down.  Leaves made a circle and little triangle shapes on top out of fabric.
She made so much and put them on her branches.  She called them "Leaves."      Leaves went to her Grandma (the first tree that ever lived) and she had magic. Grandma put the magic in the leaves and..

POOF! All the trees had non fabric leaves. From then on, all trees had leaves.             MAYA C., Age 9

HOW GIRAFFES GOT THEIR NECKS

Once a very long time there was a giraffe and she had a very short neck.

Her name was Stella and she loved to run. She had to jump very high to reach the leaves which she ate.

When Stella had a baby, she noticed something strange. The baby had a neck 3 times as big as Stella's neck. The baby only needed a few months of help till it did not need any help at all.The baby could easily reach the leaves without jumping.Stella was very happy for her baby But Stella died after many happy years of playing with her baby who was named Ella. And from then on all giraffes had long necks.                                                                                                                                                        ZOE F., Age 9

     HOW THE STARS BECAME

At one time every night when the sun disappear it would be pitch black. There was no moon or stars to set a glow upon the world. No one could see for half of their lives. Except for one monster which every other creature envied. Because not only did it have thousands of eyes these eyes where so shiny and bright that they could see any where and any time. Other animals and humans would beg for those eyes so they could see whenever they pleased, but the monster was harsh and mean and would not let anyone have the gift of sight.

One day a cloud that was watching over this monster had enough of his sour behavior. He warned that if he didn’t start sharing he would lose his eyesight altogether. Not even slightly moved, the monster played all night. As the sun came out all the other people woke up. A brave little deer came to the monster's cave and asked for one of his eyes with the courage she had.

Annoyed, the monster swiped it’s claw across her face right over her eyes so she couldn’t see at all. This enraged the big cloud. He couldn’t believe that’s such a lucky creature wouldn’t have the generosity to donate to even a tiny dear. The cloud knew what he had to do. He used his wind to take all of the monster's eyes and scattered the gems across the sky. This made the whole world glow like a disco ball. The cloud used it’s magical rain to heal the little dear's eyes.

Now whoever you are you get to experience the joy of light. Except for the monster who spent the rest of it’s days in the dark.

HOW ANTS GOT STRONG

Long, long ago before electricity, the world wars,
and even humans, there were two creatures on Earth:
ants and spiders. Now ants were not very strong
back then - what was strong was their personalities.
They were all loud, boastful, and super arrogant.
However, this was not the case for one ant.
This unusual ant was named Albert.

Now, Albert was one of the best ants you'll ever meet. He was so kind and compassionate. However, he was lacking in one quality: courage. Albert was a very timid and shy guy - the complete opposite of most of his compatriots. He was bullied a lot because of his lack of bravery. One day he got so fed up with the ridiculing that he just got up and left. He was going on an adventure so scary, so dangerous, that he had to be brave because otherwise he would surely perish. so without further ado, Albert set off into the meadow of great, long, grasses. The next day, he was walking along when he stumbled upon an ant caught in a spider's web.

"Help, help," she cried. Albert knew he had to be brave in this situation. Someone's life was in danger! Quickly, he looked around and spotted a strand of the great, long, grass. He tore the grass and sawed the ant out of the spiderweb. He then untangled the spiderweb and both ants sprinted to safety.

As they ran away, the ant he had saved seemed to grow and grow. Before long, it had grown to the size of a human. The ant wasn't an ant, it was a great goddess!

"Albert," she said, "By saving me from the spider, you overcame your fears and were brave and courageous." In thanks, the goddess made all ants super strong and when Albert came home to his village, he was hailed as a hero. And now, whenever ants think about their amazing strength, they remember Albert and the powerful lesson he learned that day. That no matter how scared or frightened you are, you should persevere because you CAN be brave.

 KATHY'S GHOST

One day Kathy was hanging out with her niece and nephew when suddenly she heard a loud noise outside the house, but when she went outside to see what was wrong, she didn’t hear nor see anything bad happening. After a few minutes she starting wondering if it came from the neighbor’s house but sure enough they weren’t there so she looked in the bedrooms and bathrooms and finally outside. She turned around the corner and saw Norm and Andrea lying on the floor with blood all over them. They were dead! Kathy started to cry. What was she going to do? She called 911 and a few days later was invited to their funeral. She was so sad Norma and Andrea weren’t there anymore so she went to their gravestones every day.

`    One day when she went to the gravestone she started hearing weird noises and seeing weird flashes of light, then a familiar face started walking towards her. It was NORM!
He looked a bit different though, then he started talking gibberish. Was it really Norm? Then he suddenly said “Oh, hey Kathy, it’s nice to see you again!”

Kathy was shocked. A ghost was talking to her and she could see it clearly. What was wrong with her? After a bit of talking Andrea came out. “Yay! Andrea!” Kathy said. They all sat down and started talking again. They told Kathy how they died. Apparently someone shot them and was planning to shoot Kathy, but ran out of bullets.                                  SIENNA G., Age 9

There was one square centimeter of sunburn. “Oh, my!” he ran around screaming. I’m going to die! So he put sunscreen on his back.

Story 2   Shiraz went to Kentucky 10 weeks ago.  He went to Wolf Lodge.  It was 200% fun. He went on a tiny ride called "The Drop."      It had a 20 minute drop of plain falling while Shiraz whispered "We are going to die!!"    At the bottom he dove off on purpose and got a tiny bump the size of the Mariana Trench.  This concluded his trip.

 THE SANDWICHES

PROTAGANIST:

One day a worker named Gloria put me down on a table. She put on my tomato mini skirt and cheese shirt, and of course my ketchup hair and then she put my brown jacket which kind of covered my face but that didn’t matter.  I was ready to conquer the world but before I could do that she had to do one last step, put on my clear sweater which covered my face to
“Gee we are is going somewhere really cold!” I thought to myself and I was right.

It was really cold. There was a couple of sandwiches that looked like me but I didn’t talk to them, I was too excited to play with Gloria. Wait Gloria were are you. She must of needed to get something I’m sure she’ll come back soon.

But instead of Gloria getting me it was someone different but that’s okay, I like new people.

Then we waited for a while until we finally got to this Black machine behind it there was a human -- it was Gloria! Ohhhh now I get it, this human was taking me to Gloria so I could play with her but before I could jump out of the humans hands, he took me away. “Well I guess I’ll see her soon.”

Afterwards he took me to a table and took of my clear coat. “ Ahhh that feels good” I thought. Then he brought me closer to his mouth “ oh I know what that means......... he obviously wants to have a conversation so I talked to him but he’s a human so he doesn’t understand sandwich. But then he put his teeth into me this one means hello see I’ve gotta big noodle, but that would be gross no one puts noodles in there sandwiches... so forget that I don’t have a noodle.

Wait he’s tearing me off “ketchup, ketchup, ketchup and death."

Today was a long day at work and I was hungry so I decided to get a sandwich from Starbucks but they didn’t have my usual turkey sandwich so I got the cheese, tomato, and ketchup one instead.

Then I sat down at the table and ate it it was DELICIOUS!

GROUP WRITING

A boy named Joey Kavinsky writes notes in his notebook each day of the week.
“Big crabs dig holes everywhere,” Joey writes on Wednesday at the beach.
Cindy, his older sister picks on him because of his writing.
“Dumb dumbs like her don’t understand me,” Joey writes about Cindy on Thursday.
Every day is a new note, never repeating one.
Fridays are Joey’s favorite days to write because he always has plans on the weekends to look foreword to.
Great days are written about most vividly.
Harry is Cindy’s annoying boyfriend.
Ingrid is Cindy’s annoying best friend.
Joey writes about how gross and rude they are.
Kids Joey’s age aren’t very nice to him, so he doesn’t have many friends.
Long days result in boring notes.
Monday comes again.
Nothing out of the ordinary happens, so he just imagines what could have happens and writes that down.
On Tuesday, Joey brings his notebook for Show-And-Tell and reads some of his notes to the class.
Peter is a teacher’s pet in class but when it’s recess, he and his friends make fun of Joey and his notebook.
Quietly at lunch, Peter steals Joey’s notebook from his backpack, runs over to the trash can, and yells to Joey, “Come get your notebook, Weirdo!”
Right before Peter drops the notebook in the trash, Joey jumps up from his seat and runs over to Peter, but he’s too late.
Somewhere, deep in the trash can, Peter dropped the notebook.
Trying to dig for his notebook, Joey was cover in trash and a sea of laughter erupted at his poor attempt.
Unclean was Joey’s notebook when he found it.
Very much of his notes were ruined.
Wetter and wetter his eyes became and soon they were overflowing with water.
Xavier, Joey’s one and only friend, comforted him as he slowly walked back to his seat with a hung head and a heavy heart.
“You know,” Xavier offered, “ we can always report him to the principal for stealing and destroying your property.”
“Zere’s no use,” Joey replied through sobs and a stuffy nose, “no one would believe me over The Teacher’s Pet.”

SCIENCE FICTION

THE NEW SPECIES

On a planet far…far away there was an alien. This alien was different from the others. His name was Brian. He had a regular modern name that was unlike all his friends, but most of all he had 20 eyes, 7 legs and 20 arms.

Everyone teased him for how he looked. He thought about hiding away forever. However he always convinced himself he would have a better day. That day never came.
One decade later, a goofy alien approached Brian. Brian was astonished. This alien had 70 eyes, 50 legs and 48 arms! Somehow Brian knew he was fake. This alien was too shiny, its arms were too floppy, but most of all, only 2 legs moved to walk! “Who are you?” Brian asked.

“I am Jake.” The new alien answers smartly. Brian did not like the look on Jake’s face. Jake was smiling like a 2 year old.

“No,” Brian corrected. “What species are you?” Jake looked like he was going to explode.

“I am human.” Jake said nervously. Brian didn’t understand. How were humans here on this planet already? He though as Brian looks in the distance, he gasped.

“I know,” Jake said. “That’s why I’m here. There’s nothing anyone can do. Our planet already went through there.” Brian felt he hands start shaking. Then he ran around knocking his friend’s doors and pointing to the whirling black mass in the sky. All five of them started knocking on their neighbor’s doors.

10 minutes later everyone could feel the gravity of the black hole pulling them into the middle. Next, they passed right through the hole. “What?” Brian exclaimed. But when he went home there was a pot on his stove bubbling with a green substance.

However one day the cat got tired. So I went right out in front of the cat, I regret that. The human put a great big block of cheese right in front of me so I just had to take a bite. (this part is written by his son.) The second he took a nibble he was dead.

ANTAGONIST

I just looked play games with the mice I don’t understand why they always run away! I just want to bite them into some in the air! But these mice are rude.

After a long day of chasing mice, I was gasping for breath. So, the rude mice came over and ran circles around me. Now isn’t that just mean. My owner came over with a block of wood with the wire attached to it. They call it a “Mouse Trap”. I call it the No Fun Maker. My owner the No Fun Maker on the ground right next to the mouse the next second I knew the mouse is dead. My name for the “mouse trap” was correct! I was so mad I that I didn’t get to play anymore I bit my owners arm, hard.                                                                                                                                                            By GABRIEL H.   ALIENS

In the near future, Earth is taken over by aliens. These aliens can take on the form of humans and sound exactly like us. I know for this is what happened to us. The “aliens” you speak of are humans, as you, the aliens to us, invaded our home and impersonated us. Now, we are returning the favor. We were humans, and when you came at us, you looked like us. When you won the war for this planet, left, and you forgot about us.

Now that you know this, it is actually you who are impersonating us, and are the true aliens of Earth.

CAT & MOUSIN'

The Mouse: Why is Cat always trying to eat me? It’s so terrifying! I’m here minding my own business, when she tries to pounce on me. I ran away squeaking, absolutely terrified. Cat is still chasing me, so I decide to finish her once and for all. I jumped next to a pot of boiling oil. Right when cat pounced at me, I jumped out of the way. Cat shrieked as she fell into the oil. “Ha ha ha!” mouse chuckled. Peace at last.

The Cat: Cat licked his lips staring at the tasty mouse. I’m so hungry. I need to eat this mouse. Pounce! Dang…Missed! I won’t miss this time! NO! OH! Ahhh! It was all dark.

Dear Diary,
I am a nobody. Just a useless glass bottle. And yet somehow I managed to inspire hope, amazement, and absolute wonder. This is my story.
  * 1971 - Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean *
Nothing before 1971 was important. Sure, I overheard the occasional curse word or coronation but everything paled in comparison. We were on a ship headed toward New York City when I was yanked out of my hiding place by a 17-year-old boy. As soon as I saw him, I knew he was important - he's that type of person. He would be my human for the next century. Together we went above the hull. If I could've breathe, the sight would have taken my breath away. In all directions, as far as the eye could see, there was water. Just water. And only water. My human then scribbled down a note and stuck it in me. It read

Hi, my name is Joself Erdle. I am seventeen and on my way to America. Will you be my friend?

Then he tosses me down 16 feet into the water. Needless to say, it's cold. It's was tough journey from there on. I got pushed and pummeled, pulled and picked on. It took 50 years but I finally wash up on a beach and am reunited with my boy. He is a lot older now, but it's still him and we still belong together.
  With love, Glass Bottle

Dear Diary,
Water is all-seeing and all-powerful. I have caused and stopped wars. I have killed millions and saved billions. I have capsized the Titanic and rained for 24 hours straight. Some would say I have been the villain of this story for keeping the bottle in my oceans for so long. But I know the truth - without me, how would people travel, what would they drink? No, I know the truth - water is the true hero of this story.
  Yours Truly, Water

Today we went to Grandma’s house. We had a plan to get the cookies. As soon as Grandma looked away, peacock Nia would keep watch and peacock Larry would grab the jar. And when the time came peacock Abigail told everyone to GO! And so we sat under Grandma’s couch and stuffed our beaks with cookies.

JOURNALISM
One Sunday three little peacocks went to Grandma Peacocks house for lunch. They all sat down and had a wonderful meal of fruit and berries. But as soon as Grandma left to wash the dishes, the three little peacocks grabbed her cookie jar and ran.                    KYRA G., Age 12

Dear Diary,

Hi, I’m Veronica. Veronica the Volcano. I live in the beautiful land of Hawaii. There, I have beautiful views of the ocean and many friends like my best friends Manny the Mountain, Rosie the River, Sophia and Spencer the Sparrows and Terry the Tree. Terry’s always in a bad mood, so Manny, Rosie, Spencer, Sophia and I always try to brighten his day.
Everyone is so nice to me except Manny’s older brother, Max. He always makes fun of me for being different from other rock fixtures and because of my differences he always is between Manny and me, so we always have to have Sophia and Spencer carry our messages. It’s so unfair of him! Sometimes Max just makes me want to melt him.

LOSING KATE

I woke up to my pounding heart and an awful headache. My sister filled my thoughts. I remembered that day when I first got the news that Kate died in a car crash I sat there trying to wrap my head around what just happened. I was in school at the time and the day was over. I got on the bus silent. Not until I was in my house sitting on my bed did it hit me. I came like a crashing wave hitting my feet. My eyes burned with salty tears. I would never see my sister again, no matter what I did or how hard I tried. That was a year ago today. tossing and turning in my bed. I got up and went to my sisters room to check on Kate like I always used to do. I knew deep down in my heart that she wasn’t there but a small part of me excepted to see her softly breathing in her bed. Seeing her sitting on the floor of her room gave me relief.
       “Kate” I called out ,

I stared until I realized it wasn’t her. She didn’t even slightly move to the sound of my voice. This strangers eyes where blank. She had a stern face that my Kate could never hold. Her whole body was motionless and pale. So I screamed and screamed until I couldn’t scream any more.

   GHOSTS!
  "Fine!"
  "Fine!"

Colbie slams her door in my face. Ughh! She's so annoying! However, I'm not going to let her ruin my favorite day of the year. It's Halloween which is always extra special because it's also my birthday! I slip on my costume and run to the door. My friends are here! My pals - Maya, Elouise, & Lucia jump and shout, "Happy Birthday!" I giggle and examine our costumes. We are all dressed as members of the Beatles.

"I'm so excited for the haunted house," Maya exclaims.

"Yeah, it's going to be awesome," Lucia chimes in.
  . . .
The second we enter the haunted house, I am already scared. Three ghosts are posed in the center of the room. They each have a pressed white sheet on with pristine white masks. When we walk past them, I look closer at the masks. One appears to - gulp- have a splatter of blood on it. When I back up, they jump out at us.

"We will be your tour guides. Follow us," they rasp.

After we recover from being scared out of our wits, we tentatively followed them. For some reason, I felt like I recognized the voices of the ghosts but no, that wouldn't be possible so I shook it off.       Suddenly, Frankenstein jumps out at us and - and he's not that scary. His green face make-up is fading off and well, he's wearing Adidas. My friends and I exchange looks.
    '
"He's not that scary at all!" exclaims Elouise. We move on, now confident that we can handle this haunted house. Next, zombies come pouring out of the doorway arms extended. But they are not scary either. In fact, a couple of zombies look like they're dancing like a robot. We snort. To imagine that we had once been scared about this is a joke. However, the ghosts aren't as pleased as we are.

"So, nothing can scare you, right? they glare.

      "Oh, yeah" we brag.

"Well . . ." They peel off their masks to reveal the most grotesque painted-on faces I have ever seen. We shriek and sprint to the door of the house only to find my sister and her friends outside dressed in pressed, white sheets with ugly ghost masks in hand, cackling with laughter.

PERSPECTIVE #1:     The Grandmother:   There I was enjoying dinner with my whole family. We were all joking and laughing and having tons of fun when a bat swoops down and falls into my plate. Ahhh! I jump up "Where's the manager!?"

PERSECTIVE #2 :  The Manager
So far everything was going according to plan. Food was being served on time, tables were filling up - it was all perfect. I turned around and then it was all in slow motion. A bat tumbles slowly onto a women's plate. Oh-oh! She stands up and asks for the manager. I grimace and run to hide.

JOURNALISM:   Last Evening, a family was eating out and they had a startling surprise. A young bat fell off a rafter in the hotel and went straight into a plate. This will likely not have a very good outcome for the new restaurant.

EATING BATS
HOW THE ROSE BECAME

One day Aphrodite the Goddess of Love was sad. Although she had accomplished many
things she had always wished there was a flower for love. So she started crafting, as the only thing
she loved as much as love was crafting.

So she started making hearts out of the world’s finest fabrics (pink, red, yellow) until
she swirled them all together and put a green stem at the end. To make sure no one touched it,
she put spikes on the stem.

Then she took a look from far away, she was relieved. It looked amazing.

“Now what should I name this Beauty?” she asked herself.

After days of thinking she finally decided on the most beautiful name: Rose.                                 SIENNA G., Age 11
